For most people, this
is where they start their Disney vacation. As the first
section in the Magic Kingdom, Main Street USA is a bright
and colorful replica of a small town in Anywhere, USA. The
quaint setting and bright colors might make everything seem
larger than life, but you’d be wrong. Actually, the town
is smaller than life as everything is built to 4/5 scale.
With Cinderella’s Castle looming in the background, kids
instinctually want to run past Main Street into the park.
Parents however, should rein them in for a minute so you can
situate yourself. You can get maps, guides and all the
information you need from City Hall.
You can also hop on
the Walt Disney World Railroad. This train makes a 1 ½ mile
loop around the park, making stops in Adventureland and
Mickey’s Toontown Fair. It’s a scenic ride, but you
might appreciate the seats more after walking around for a
while.
Main Street USA
provides the best shopping in the Magic Kingdom. There are
plenty of shops and stores where you can get anything
Disney, including ponchos and gear for rainy days (like the
umbrellas with Mickey ears). If the kids aren’t bursting
yet, take a look at the Main Street Cinema. This converted
movie theater is a movie-themed gift shop that still
projects old Disney animation and commercials.
