Spread out for more than 1,000 acres, Stanley Park reflects the majestic wilderness that Vancouver and western Canada is famous for. Named after Lord Stanley (Stanley Cup), the area is the largest urban park on the continent. It is surrounded by crystalline waters and peaked by numerous mountain ranges, making for an all-terrain recreational getaway. Forest trails, jogging biking and hiking routes, outdoor theaters and long beaches are just a part of this recreational hub.
Stanley Park’s offers numerous attractions, including the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Center, one of the largest aquariums on the west coast, the unique Vancouver Cricket Club, which is always good for a laugh, the Rose Garden and the Shakespeare Garden, both more than 80 years old, and the National Geographic Tree, thought to be the largest red cedar in the world, to name a few. The park is also home to a stand of historic Totem Poles, many of which you will notice displayed in photographs and other artwork throughout the city as they are a prominent symbol of Vancouver’s past.
