1441 Cartwright Street,
This harbor-side community is an eclectic mix of artisans, proprietors and museums intertwined with heavy tourism and what remains of this once industrial hub of British Columbia. The outdoor promenade, which sits directly along the water’s edge, is scattered with street performers and musicians, as throngs of tourists stroll by, browsing nearby shops or dining in outdoor cafes or simply relaxing bayside with family or friends.
Blanketing the bay are numerous houseboats and old ships, as well as boat-tour companies ready to whisk tourists away on a fishing excursion or a river tour of the city. On land, Granville Island offers a wide assortment of activities. Visitors can explore the open-air markets or investigate one of the many shops, ranging from freshly made fudge to some of the area’s most famous brewhouses. Don’t forget to visit the many museums, including the Sport Fishing, Model Ships and Model Trains Museums. Ferries take visitors to Stanley Park (also within walking distance), where visitors can enjoy the open landscape, complete with a stunning view of Vancouver’s Coast Mountain Range, or visit prominent attractions like Science World, the Maritime Museum and Yaletown.
Granville Island is easily accessible from anywhere in the city, and is a must for first-time visitors.
