Delighting more than 750,000 visitors a year, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is the largest museum in Canada. This spectacular museum is devoted the natural and cultural history, with amazing interactive galleries, educational programs, workshops, temporary exhibits, video presentations and more.
The ROM houses one of the finest collections of Chinese art and artifacts in North America, with intricate paintings, 800-year-old sculptures, other historical artifacts and war technology in two huge galleries. Another highlight of the museum is the ancient Egypt Gallery, displaying ancient treasures such as jewelry, coffins and sculptures.
In addition to the museum’s internationally-renowned collection of Canadian art, complete with paintings, sculptures, drawings and artifacts, ROM boasts an excellent array of other galleries that display the works of major art movements, from Post-Impressionism, to modern art, to the Renaissance.
The ROM is also a major research institution. The Limited Gallery of Earth Sciences offers an interactive display of earth altering forces, as well as samples of gold and gemstones. Meanwhile, the hands-on biodiversity display explores the complexities of earth’s biodiversity. The amazing Dinosaurs Gallery and its 13 real dinosaur skeletons (including the savage, carnivorous Albertosaurus, and Parasaurolophus, a rare duckbilled dinosaur) are a favorite among the young and old. And the interactive Discover Gallery allows visitors touch unique museum objects, try on a suit of armor, and dig for fossils.
