Visitors can stroll through history at Black Creek Pioneer Village, with more than 40 homes and shops, complete with all accessories, dating as far back as the mid-19th century. What is more, the homes and storefronts are all staffed, each donning the appropriate costume for their particular role in the village (i.e. postmaster, farmer, housewife, etc.). Visitors can check out the blacksmith shop, and hold a conversation with the blacksmith himself as he demonstrates his craft. Visit the doctor’s house for a look at the remedies of the time. Our favorite is the bakery, where one can sample the freshly baked breads and other pastries.
Pioneer village is a nice retreat for all ages. Often the village plays host to special events, from the Spring Fair to the Fiddlers contest to craft demonstrations and more. The Pioneer Festival is arguably the biggest event at the village, with the holiday celebrations a close second. Christmas is especially inviting, as visitors can tour the village and enjoy evergreen garlands, taste the mulled cider, sample mincemeat puddings, and indulge other traditional Christmas activities. On-site parking $5.
