  Overview

Despite the immense size of the city and perhaps the problem of language barriers, Paris is very easy to travel. For one, both the Charles de Gaulle Airport and the Orly Airport provide numerous ways to get to and from the heart of the city. From taxis to airport shuttles to group and private buses, there are a variety of choices. We suggest the shuttle buses, simply for financial reasons.

When traveling the city itself, the major tourist destinations, as well as most of the city in general is easily accessible. Well-off tourists might prefer to taxi around, but such transportation is very expensive, not to mention that most taxi drivers don’t speak English and can get fairly aggravated when communication is hindered.

Smarter tourists will take a day or so (if that) to become acquainted with the underground subway system, consisting of the Metro train and the RER (regional train line). One-, three-, and five-day passes are available, making for not only inexpensive travel, but, as you will find out by learning the routes, very efficient travel. Admittedly, buses are the most difficult form of travel to learn in the city. There are many routes, and if a language barrier exists, it can be difficult to figure out which way you are headed. Nevertheless, drivers are helpful and subway passes can be transferred into bus admission. In short, all it takes is a little patience and common sense. Or, you can do it the superficial touristy way and take a cab, but what fun is that!
