Few museums on earth can compare to Paris’ Musee du Louvre. The building is more than 800 years old, and is the largest museum in the world. It is one of the most aesthetically appealing structures in the world, both inside and out. The ornate detail of the Louvre’s façade is complimented by the distinctive glass pyramid situated in the middle of the museum’s main promenade. Visitors will note the extensive, often hours-long admission line tailing from the pyramid, which is the only entrance into the museum. (A museum pass will cut the waiting period dramatically).
The works of art inside are comprised of some of the greatest pieces ever created, from paintings and sculpture, to jewelry and ancient relics and more. In addition, the museum’s individual rooms themselves are sight all their own, elegantly decorated from floor to ceiling. The museum’s pieces represent centuries of ingenious artwork, from antiquity and classical periods, to the Renaissance, Impressionism and much more. The collections are divided into the Richelieu, Sully and Denon wings, which are best navigated by using the museum’s complimentary brochure/map. From Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” to Egyptian antiquities to European paintings of the 19th century, the Musee du Louvre will inspire anyone and everyone, and is a must-see for all who visit Paris.
