RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL

Rockefeller Center
1260 6th Avenue at 50th Street
 (212) 247-4777; (212) 632-4041 for tour info.

Radio City Music Hall is a landmark within a landmark. It’s an archetypal example of the Art deco style that is prevalent throughout Rockefeller Center. Home to the world-famous Rockettes chorus line, Radio City Music Hall is one of the largest indoor theaters in America. Designed by Donald Deskey, the 6,200-seat theater has an exterior that invokes images of Gotham City and an interior that opens with a 60-ft high foyer.

This introduction leads you into the equally impressive theater. The most striking feature of the theater is the design of the arch above the stage. The arch represents a sun setting over the sea designed in the rounded Art Deco style that was popular when the theater opened in 1932. You can learn more about Radio City by taking the one-hour tours that leave from the lobby every thirty minutes.

The most famous feature of Radio City’s stage is the Rockettes chorus line. Their annual Christmas show is a harbinger of the holiday season, and still opens to sold-out shows.
