NEW YORK ART MUSEUMS


Metropolitan Museum of Art  - Certainly considered one of the best museums in the world. The range of the collection is astounding, covering everything from Assyrian sculpture to post-modern painting. Notable sections of the museum include the sections on Egyptian art and sculptures and the American Wing. Make this one of your first stops. 

Museum of Modern Art - MOMA is one of the greatest collections of modern art in existence. The recently renovated structure contains an international collection of modern works including Van Gogh's Starry Night and Waterlilies by Monet. 

Frick Collection - The Frick collection is housed in the mansion of Henry Clay Frick, the nineteenth-century industrialist. The collection is comprised of  Western art from the early Renaissance through the late nineteenth century, including masterpieces by Bellini, El Greco, Rembrandt, Titian, Turner, Vermeer, Whistler 

Guggenheim - The Guggenheim is one of the most recognizable buildings in New York. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the museum houses a fabulous collection of 19th and 20th-century art. Some of the features artists include Kandinsky, Picasso and Magritte

 

Whitney Museum of American Art - The Whitney boasts the greatest collection of 20th-century American art in the world.  Keep an eye out for "The American Century, Art & Culture 1900-2000" , part I of the exhibit (1900-1950)  received rave reviews and part II (1950-2000) is anxiously awaited. It opens September 26th and runs until February 13, 2000.
