LUXOR HOTEL & CASINO

The Luxor is an unmistakable figure on the south strip. Designed with an ancient Egyptian theme, the hotel and casino are mainly housed inside a huge 30-story tall pyramid. In Las Vegas could you imagine anything else? There are also obelisks and other figures like the Sphinx and Cleopatra's Needle adorning the outside of the casino. If you somehow miss this sight, the Luxor has provided a huge beacon at the top of the pyramid. It emits a 315,000-watt beam of light to help you find the casino at night. It is another addition to the amazing Las Vegas nighttime vista.

The Luxor has recently undergone a $300 million renovation that has added class and convenience to a formerly maligned structure. The original design was considered "cheesy", but that seems redundant in Las Vegas. The new Luxor has moved the main entrance of the casino so that visitors will enter into the main casino floor, not the floor above. Another renovation that has made things more convenient is that the new, beautiful lobby is now more centrally located and easy to find. Formerly, you would need a camel to help you get to the lobby and the rooms. The rooms themselves are the most distinct in Las Vegas. If you stay in the pyramid, in order to get your room you'll take an elevator that travels on a 40-degree angle. Once actually inside the room, one entire wall is a sloped window to remind you that you are indeed inside a pyramid. One drawback of the Luxor is that most of the rooms inside the pyramid do not have baths, but only showers. If baths are an integral part of your life, stay in the tower. If you are a high roller, or just want to treat yourself,  try to stay in one of the suites in the pyramid. They are exquisitely decorated and have Jacuzzis under the sloped window. Sipping champagne in the Jacuzzi while taking in the incredible nighttime view of Las Vegas will definitely bring your mummy back to life.

One of the main attractions of the Luxor is Club Ra. It's one of the hippest joints in town.
