Boasting one of Chicago's newest major museum buildings and one of the country's largest facilities devoted to contemporary art, the Museum of Contemporary Art offers thought-provoking art exhibitions created since 1945, including painting, sculpture, video and film, and performance.

Located in the heart of the Magnificent Mile, near the historic Water Tower, the new building opened in July 1996. With nearly seven times the square footage of the museum's previous facility, the new building features special exhibition spaces, naturally-lit collection galleries, a 300-seat theater, gift store, bookstore, cafe, and a terraced sculpture garden
overlooking Lake Michigan.

The museum collection includes more than 5,300 works and features notable strengths in minimalism, postminimalism, conceptualism, surrealism, and
artists' books, as well as works by Chicago-based artists. Among the artists in the collection are Alexander Calder, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Bruce Nauman, and Robert Smithson. The collection also includes works by Francis Bacon, Ann Hamilton, Alfredo Jaar, Jasper Johns, Jeff Koons, Rene
Magritte, Kerry James Marshall, Ed Paschke, Ad Reinhardt, Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, Lorna Simpson, and Andy Warhol.

MCafe, the museum's cafe, features creative cuisine and stunning views of Lake Michigan and the museum's sculpture garden.

Museum-goers can rent a self-guided audio tour in order to experience the collections at their own pace. For information on the museum's free guided tour, call (312) 280-2660. For a small fee, private guided tours are available for any size group. Additional information is available by calling (312) 397-3898.

Culturecounter, the museum's store and bookstore, offers an array of contemporary works, wares, books, and toys.

The museum also is available for rent by individuals and organizations.  Catering is provided by the museum's exclusive in-house food service provider. For further information, call (312) 397-3855.
