BOSTON PUBLIC GARDENS

Visitors to Boston will find a relaxing place in the heart of the city in the pristine Public Garden. Adjacent to Boston Common, many think it is a part of the park, but the Public Garden is a separate area surrounded by beautifully arched wrought iron fencing with massive gates through which to
enter. Old-fashioned benches line the curving pathways through the park creating a perfect place to rest on a sightseeing tour of the city. Leafy boughs hang overhead creating a welcome shade to those seeking a romantic
moment.

Boston Public Garden is the nation's oldest botanical garden, begun in 1859.  Several of the garden's special attractions have inspired many an artist and writer, and attract people of all ages each year. A small lagoon lies amidst the greenery and colorful flowers, luring visitors to cross it via the Brooklyn Bridge, or aboard one of the famous foot pedal-powered swan boats.  The boats cruise the pond leisurely during warm months. Near the pond stands a series of small, bronze statues of a mother duck and her ducklings. Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack compose Mrs. Mallard's pack made famous in the 1941 classic children's story Make Way for Ducklings, set in the Public Garden. The statues was inspired by an actual duck who would stop traffic daily as she led her babies to the garden's pond. Visitors are lucky enough to near real ducks and swans alongside the pond.

Located between Charles and Arlington Streets, many popular attractions lie within sight of it including the Bull & Finch Pub, also known as "Cheers", Newbury Street, Boston's Back Bay area, including the Esplanade, and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
