THE DAVIS
PLANETARIUM
This facility is well equipped for
both the production of traditional planetarium shows and
sophisticated multimedia shows. Davis Planetarium shows generally
incorporate the use of 300 500 slides, 80 special effects
projectors, and 50 carousel slide projectors.

Dome:
The Davis Planetarium dome has a 50-foot diameter
Projector:
A Minolta MS-15 Star Projector is located in the center of the
planetarium and projects 8,500 stars In addition, separate
projectors project first magnitude stars the Sun, the Moon, and
other
planets
Sound:
The Davis Planetarium hosts a 4-channel, 12-speaker sound system.
Each speaker is driven at 125 watts, producing high quality sound
Original Show:
"Images of Infinity" was the first show presented at the
Davis Planetarium. All shows presented at the planetarium are
original --created and produced at the Maryland Science Center
Many shows are distributed world wide to other planetariums. Davis
Planetarium shows average 30 minutes in length.
Founded:
The Davis Planetarium was founded and funded by Allen C Davis and
Dorothy Davis Allen Davis was a local entrepreneur of a cigarette
and candy wholesale company, as well as an inventor of machinery.
He designed and helped to install not only the elevator that
raises and lowers the Star Projector, but also the catwalk which
is located behind the dome
